An open access geospatial data repository for the Western Indian Ocean
MASPAWIO provides access to marine spatial datasets, providing layers useful for marine spatial planning, management and research, from multiple primary and secondary sources, and contributing compiled information into other regional and global repositories. This portal was initiated in 2015-16 as a collaboration between the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and CORDIO East Africa, with funding from the French Development Agency (AFD). Support in 2016-17 is provided by the Western Indian Ocean marine Science Association (WIOMSA) through the Mozalink project, and the InterGovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on a marine biodiversity database project.
